GAMES AND RITUALS

Juegos, tableros, retablos, altares y cajas son modos para representar y entender el mundo.. Estas formas permiten la inclusión de elementos corpóreos y tangibles como géneros o velas y también plumas, piedras y semillas, objeto de rituales entre los pueblos originarios. Mi deseo fue recuperar mitos y leyendas de nuestro pasado.
Los ámbitos marcados de antemano indican el lugar donde comienza el ritual iniciático. El armadillo, utilizado como incensario en el Alto Perú, pertenece a la tierra y da testimonio del carácter sagrado de la naturaleza entera.
Aquí se religa lo cotidiano y lo sobrenatural porque esto es lo que vemos… esto lo que tocamos…

Games, game boards, altarpieces, altars and boxes are ways to represent and understand the world. These shapes allow the inclusion of corporate and tangible elements such as cloths and candles as well as feathers, stones and seeds, object of rituals among native populations. My wish was to recover myths and legends of our past.
Those areas marked beforehand show the place where the initiatory ritual is started. The armadillo, used as incensory in Alto Perú, belongs to the Earth and is a witness of the sacred character of the entire Nature.
Here, the day-to-day and the supernatural are reconnected, since this is what we see, this is what we touch…

El impulso lúdico aparece en la obra de Estela Pereda en reiteradas ocasiones...En América, Estela encuentra la cifra de su búsqueda: La exaltación del mundo prehispánico, fue para ella el modo más genuino de vinculación con su tierra; su celebración no es sólo estética sino fundamentalmente ética. En sus trabajos busca recuperar la armonía perdida, el tiempo en el que el hombre convivía con el mito, con la dimensión sagrada de lo vital, proyectada en todos los elementos de la naturaleza. Frente a una concepción perdida de la sacralidad de la existencia y en la que el hombre se ha escindido de la tierra - su ámbito natural - el arte intenta reinstaurar esa instancia de perplejidad originaria.”

A ludic intensity appears in Estela Pereda’s work… In America, Estela finds a figure for her quest. The exaltatio of the Pre-Hispanic world, was for her the most authentic way of linking to her own land; its celebration is not only aesthetic but fundamentally ethical as well. In her creations she seeks to recover the lost harmon, those times in which Man co-existed with myths, with the sacred dimension of all that is vital, projected in all elements of Nature. Before a lost conception of the sacredness of existence in which Man has drawn apart from the Earth- his natural environment- art attempts to restore that instance of original perplexity.
